Mid Century Mania

Some girls have a thing for shoes, I have a thing for old furniture. Especially that of the mid-century modern era. I was definitely born in the wrong time period.

I have had my eye out for a mid century modern piece, possibly a dresser for the second bedroom, for some time. I wanted something that was solid wood. A lot of stuff from this period is veneer or laminate. I also wanted something with legs. If you know mid century stuff, you know that the legs are what make the piece. Beautiful little legs. The problem was everything I have seen that met these criteria were several hundred dollars. I didn't really NEED any furniture for my home, so I could never justify spending that much. That is when I found my craiglist angel. And this popped up....

A tall, very good-sized, mid-century mod dresser made of solid wood and the most beautiful legs for $75! I almost had a heart attack. I happened to get out of work early that day and got to this dresser as fast as I could. It has a few dents and dings but it is a beauty.

Then the same guy posted this two days later.

AHHHHHHHH. It was 7:20 when I saw it and I patiently waited 25 minutes to call so it was a tad bit more acceptable of a time. When I called he said someone was coming at 8:00 am. NOOOOOOO!! My dreams were crushed. But then, at 8:15 he called back and said they had cancelled!! Yippeee!! And today this beauty will complete (for the time being) my mid century collection. I don't want to get too much of a theme going or else my poor kids will think it's 1950 when they are born and come out wearing pedal pushers.

If you are one of the many lucky enough to stay at the hotel I call my house, you will get to sleep with this beauty. Well, sleep in the same room with it. If you can even sleep with something so majestic in your room....

The chair that got away...

There is a first time for everything, and today it was almost the first time I threw a complete temper tantrum in Class and Trash. If you knew me as a youngster, you would know that most of my childhood nick names had something to do with my ability to throw a show-stopping meltdown. The main one being Oscar, as in Oscar the grouch. Luckily, I have mostly outgrown my tantrums, but I nearly reverted back to old habits today.

It all started when I spotted this amazingly cute mid century chair and promptly went to inspect it. After doing the sit test and the smell test ( I have a very sensitive nose) I frantically searched for someone to ask the price. I was soon informed that someone just bought it! Noooooooo!!!! And the worst part, it was only $18!! I would have felt much better about it if it was a ridiculous price that I would have never considered it, but knowing it was only $18, the thought has been haunting me all day. Yes the pictures below are of me creepily taking photos out the window as the new owners load it up. I was making sure they didn't change their minds as the last minute. So depressing. I hope that one day I can get over this chair...

In other news, who is doing the thrift shop challenge over at young, house, love??

Ready for Christmas

If you live near a Michael's you need to get there quick! All of their Christmas stuff is 90% off. Today I went there for a totally different purpose and I hit the Christmas jackpot. I brought home five rolls of wrapping paper for $0.39 and $0.59, cute boxes for $0.09 and $0.29 and a box of fancy Christmas cards for $2.00. There was a ton of other decorations for very cheap.

While I was out and about I was also lucky enough to stop by my favorite store Class and Trash. Although I wanted many things in the store, I restrained myself and only brought home this cool mid-century end table for $28.00.

Anyone else do any weekend shopping?
